Tileset palettes
Knowing what colors are unused or easy to free up should help a lot in making more detailed and colorful tilesets. An unused color means just that - you can change it to another color and use it on any graphics for that particular palette line without affecting any other colors in the tileset.

An 'easy to free up' color is almost the same, except you'll need to edit a few tiles in the .GFX file before the color is completely available to use.

Hint: Your CRE palettes (lines 0-3) should be the same for every tileset - especially doors. You can use different CRE colors with different tilesets/areas, but save that for when you're more comfortable editing graphics. Scenery (SCY) colors make up lines 4-7, so you can change those to whatever you want if the palette is repointed.

Note: Some colors are used by certain glow FX1. The actual glowing colors are stored elsewhere in the ROM, but the palette colors that get "hijacked" by glows can be used like any other color if a certain glow FX1 isn't checked in SMILE's FX1 window. With that in mind, 'assign' your glow colors carefully if you plan to use them. Since FX1 are area-specific and not tileset-specific, I did my best to cover which glows are intended for which tileset.

I didn't bother to point out the ones used for glow colors because those are covered here.

# = color not used by ANY tiles
# = color only used by a few tables in SMILE and/or tiles in the .GFX file; easy to free up

Tileset palette #2 (unused)
This tileset (red alternate of Crateria) is not used at all in the game. The flashing red Crateria that you see during the escape sequence is all handled by glow FX1 and room states. Lines 0-3 of the palette should be consistent with your other tilesets as usual. If you're going to use this tileset, I'd suggest repointing the palette, table and tile data for it.
