------------------ Metroid X Version 1.0 03sep99 By Rage Games ------------------ This patch file may be freely distributed if no fees are charged for its transmission or use. NOTE: Inclusion of copyrighted ROMs with Metroid X or distribution of ROMs patched with Metroid X is expressly forbidden. This is a map edit for the original Metroid. Screens, enemy and item placement, palettes, text... you name it, it's been changed. The primary goal was to make the game more playable - the discerning player will note the careful placement of platforms and enemies to make jumps easier. Not that beating the game will be a cinch. I've made items much more difficult to get, contorted the corridors into winding mazes, and completely eliminated many of the energy tanks. Beating this version will be fun but it will not be effortless. Requirements: -Metroid ROM (North America version) in .NES format NOTE: ALL ROM REQUESTS WILL BE IGNORED -An IPS patching utility (must have UCON.EXE to use INSTALL.BAT) -A NES emulator to play the modified ROM on Installation for PC Users: -Extract all .ZIP files using WinZip or PKUNZIP (available for download at http://www.hotfiles.com) -Place the Metroid ROM (should be named METROID.NES), the IPS patch (should be named METROIDX.IPS), the UCON ROM utility (should be named UCON.EXE) and the installation batch file (should be named INSTALL.BAT) all in the same directory. -Run INSTALL.BAT (Win9X users can just double-click it) and follow the directions onscreen. NOTE: Use of INSTALL.BAT is not required; if you are familiar with an IPS patch program you can also install the patch manually.
